Book Keeping! Good for you ... I began my book list in Jan. 1977 and it's still going strong and is very accurate. When I got my PC I made a database for it and that too is up to date and ALPHABETIZED!!!! :D :D IMHO doing this is a real gift to ourselves.

Will The Earth Survive? When I am reading something I know nothing about I search for information. I found the following on QUAIETEARTH.US Dawn of the dead (1978) I have to give this a 10, this movie must of had a budget because you see it in the sets, and the fact that they used a alot of...

    post-apocalypic movies

Future-movies I agree about ON THE BEACH (BOOK TOO); PLANET OF THE APES; AND THE DAY AFTER. And i also loved SOYLENT GREEN which i saw as a grown-up and found it an astounding cautionary tale and prohpetic allegory.

Anyone read any good True Crime books lately???

true crim I would add COMPULSION to the list. This story and the book sent a shock across the country. No one had ever heard of this kind of crime before. I agree with the other contributions. Ann Rule is the queen of true crime you might want to check her out.

    Murder in the Media

I'd add COMPULSION, HELTER SKELTER, IN COLD BLOOD and Joseph Wambaugh's books. These books are still very popular and are worth reading if you want to get a sense of how the term 'serial killer' came into being. The movies are very moving and multi-layered.

    poirot or holmes

Seeking New Christie And Doyle Yes I hear you! Although not the same of course ... have you tried HENNING MANKELL, AKE EDWARDSON, CHARLES PALLISER or KAREN FOSSUM? Their work is excellent albeit not Christie or Doyle but IMHO they are on a higher intellectual level, yet offer good suspense...

    poirot or holmes

Is It To Be Holmes Or Poirot? To tell you the truth having read all of Agatha's Christie's work, I am very familiar with Poirot and much of Holmes, sometimes using my annotated editions for edification. I don't think I can choose between the two. They are certainly shaped in the manner...

    The Next Big American Writer

I think what you say is very true. I thought the question was who will be 'the next generation' of writers whose work will be remembered as is the work of the post war generation. My list would include TONI MORRISON JOAN DIDION IAN McEWAN DORIS LESSING (I KNOW SHE'S 88 BUT SHE JUST WON...

    John Grisham: The Appeal

The Appeal And A Civil Action  I never thougth that Grisham is a serious literary writer. As he says he writes "entertainments" that don't go very deep and a just a product of his imagination, albeit often based on real life. IMHO readers who know his work shouldn't approach his work...
