I should do a set of mini-reviews like Martin but I'm lazy
Well, 10 off the top of my head:
Casablanca
Shawshank Redemption
12 Angry Men
Unforgiven
Usual Suspects
LA Confidential
American Beauty
Great Expectations (Lean's version)
Beauty and the Beast
City of God
Wasn't me. Besides 'I am Legend' is classed as SF as welll as horror.
As for this new order thing, I'll admit it's a bit confusing (especially with books that stradle a few genres). I guess if you're in doubt post it in fiction.
Give it a try. If it doesn't work we can go back to the old...
I wasn't convinced by the Hush storyline myself. Sure the art was good (IMHO), but the story was non-existant. Like Dark Victory, Loeb just went through the famous members of Batman's rogues gallery again.

I read this over the Summer and generally enjoyed it. I particularly liked the author's style and the fact he doesn't talk down to the reader.
I preferred the first half where the story of Calliope's grandparents and parents were told. The ending 100 pages or so where Cal him/herself was...
On the other hand, you could argue that some books are so bad, you wouldn't inflict them on your worst enemy. Keep the good ones, but you'll find that the rubbish ones tend to be the first to go, especially if you're short of space.
I'm sure you're doing this to annoy me  I was reading the first few chapters of the Eyre Affair in the library yesterday and enjoying it. Of course it turned out I'd forgotten my library card :o
It did seem to have that Pullman thing where it dripfeeds you information making you want...
I'm not convinced with the idea myself.
1) The postage costs of a book are much higher than a DVD
2) DVDs generally take less time experience (ie watch) than a book, so you aren't waiting ages for them to be returned by someone else so the company can get the product to you
3) There are...
Tell that to your wallet ;)
The forum has cast some decent remmendations (eg Middlesex), as well as some I'm not so enthusiastic about (eg Handmaid's Tale), so I think it's balanced itself out. I'd say over the last yr or 2, the BBC's Big Read has probably been more influential than the...
Good point Bobby.
As to the 'bookshelves' themselves, since crime, mystery anad thrillers are grouped together in most bookshops, shouldn't that also be the case here rather than make 2 forums to accomodate them?
Well I'm reading Sabriel, but I'm not enjoying it as much as His Dark Materials, or Hearn's work. IMHO the main draws of the book are: a) the interesting take on necromantic magic b) a wonderful use of consise prose. Dig deeper though, and the characterisation's a bit lacking. I'm not really...
Going through, the 'currently reading' thread, it appears that Alice Hoffman seems to be quite popular amongst some of the readers here with books such as Here on Earth, Practical Magic, The River King, Seventh Heaven and the like.
Which of her books have you read, and for you what's so...
I'm a bit torn on this one. I do like the currently reading section as it's easy for people to participate, and does encourage some discussion unlike the box in the user profile.
On the other hand (I'll admit to being party to this myself), it's easy to fall into the trap of just posting...
Nice one, though I wouldn't say the last 2 books were as good as the 1st one.
So I guess you may not like GRRM's 'A Song of Ice and fire's' male dominated approach. Book 1's called A Game of thrones.
Have a gander at some of Hobb's work as she empahsises characterisation. Most people...
Not sure about that, but if you want the annotations for the book, go to the following site:
http://www.enjolrasworld.com/Annotations/Alan%20Moore/V%20for%20Vendetta/V%20for%20Vendetta%20Revised%20-%20Complete.html
Well V was just a character that Alan Moore constructed from a number of influences such as Guy Fawkes etc. You could argue that V is just an idea personified, crying out against fascism and some of the policies of Thatcher's government.
Anyway...
Thant sounds like a plan to me (or maybe every 3 months).
Well apart from adding the currently reading to the profile, is it possible to add 3 more boxes, saying '3 books you loved?' (not necessarily 3 favourites as these change). That way when someone slates/commends a book...
Finished DeMille's The Charm School . What a rubbish book  It's twice as long as it should have been, with DeMille taking every opportunity he can to bash KGB controlled Russia and he's not even subtle about it (they beat their wives you know- like that's unheard of in the States). The...
