Well, I was going to open a discussion but it seems that you've said it all already
Well I enjoyed this one, though I don't see how you could read so few pages at a time (read it in one sitting  ).
I was also interested in the why pigs? I just thought Orwell picked the animals who...
Ah here we are - the proper thing:
http://bluepyramid.org/ia/bquiz.htm
(comes out with more varied anwsers)
As for my score in umm test 2:
You're Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
by Lewis Carroll
After stumbling down the wrong turn in life, you've had your mind opened to...
Umberto Eco: The Name of the Rose. You are a mystery novel dealing with theology, especially with catholic vs liberal issues. You search wisdom and knowledge endlessly, feeling that learning is essential in life.
I'm sure I took a similar test a year or 2 ago and ended up with one of...
What about a way to autogenerate a note for the mods when 5 or more mini-reviews for a book have been written (so a forum topic could be started).
Note to mod rather than auto thread generation as a topic may already exist for the book.
As well as the standard reviews, it is possible to have a section for 'mini reviews' - ie a paragraph or so. Writing proper reviews takes time, whilst a few lines can easily be bashed out after reading a book.
I'm still learning that lesson :)
I've learnt that even after a number of years reading, there are still many authors who have the ability to surprise you
I've learnt that there are some cool websites out there, and that Martin's more likely to find them than Wabbit ;)
Yesterday I...
Now I have no idea whether you're being sarcastic  but there was a time when Nirvana's Smells Like Teen spirit followed by Blur's song 2 was a favourite combination of many a DJ :)
Well, I've refrained from posting in this thread as I'll listen to anything from classical via jazz/swing to rap and nu-metal.
Anyway, 5 bands I've been in the mood for recently:
Bowie (pre Post Card). Hunky Dory's still one of my favourite albums
Flaming Lips - the recent stuff (Soft...
Just started this book yesterday, and it does seem to take potshots at society from the outset.
It is alright to be poor, but it is not alright to be destitute.
And do you suppose that a respectable poor girl can earn much by honest work?
That doesn't sound good, especially when the...
Well I didn't read many published this year, but I did read quite a few older titles:
Best fiction: The World According To Garp - John Irving (just pipping Eugenides' Middlesex. I guess this takes the most original title as well- it's still nearly impossible to describe Garp.
Author to...
Like the idea of our own forum's list.
I'm not convinced by the new book idea to be honest. Can't we just do the poll again in another year or 2 to see how things have changed? Or you could do the excel think I suppose (with people posting addendums to their lists as they read new books)
Atwood's not my cup of tea to be honest. I don't quite appreciate the way she portrays men (but I guess the ladies may find a number of male authors' portrayals of women strange as well).
Female authors that immediately spring to my mind include:
Robin Hobb
Agatha Christie (though she...
Welcome to the forum
You're after something reminiscent of the old pulps? (eg Indiana Jones, Sky Captain).
The actual genre was vast (and in a way many comics are still holding true to the pulp tradition), so I'll just post a few authors of the fantasy pulps (I can't remember the mystery/sf...
