    Why, The Book Forum?

I've been in a few book forums -for a very short time. Some were snobby amd bitchy, others boring, too silly, too dead, classics only, pulp only. This is the only one with a good mixture of people and different types of books.

John Le Carrré: Single & Single

I am not surprised he was disappointed with Alec Guiness. Think of the way he describes Smiley- pudgy, with a risible physical appearance which leads his wife to infidelity and everybody else to think they can get the better of him - which, of course, it is not true. Would anyone see Alec...

    Edgar Allen Poe

I don't want to be a spoilsport, Libra, but I bought another book like that from Barnes and I thought it was a real bargain and was going to get more. When I read it, I found why it was so cheap. It was full of errata and misprints. I hope yours it's better.

    The Dumbest Thing...

I have so many to choose from and I was going to go for the one in the Post Office, when I tried to post a parcel in a radiator or the one with the bag of peanuts and the elephant. After seen SFG75, though, I decided to go for the laser toner one. Someone else was trying to change the toner on a...

You can use the f-word in class

Exactly the same at our place. I've never heard my mother swear and my father would never do it at home either so, of course, we would never think of swearing at home, although we did when we were with our friends.

I've never had a blog. Maybe I should have one to stop posting so much nonsense here and annoying everyone in the forum.

    Worst or most disappointing book?

I wouldn't bother. The big secret is just common place. I would like to know why his books are sold in the fiction section; they should be under self-help or as an overlong agony aunt column.

    Powerpoint-good or bad

Smart boards are a replacement for the blackboard. You can project files into them, but you can also write on them with an electronic pen and save anything you have added. When they were first introduced, only the teacher had access to a computer, later they gave computers to the students and...

    Fairy Tales..

The Fisherman and the Mermaid? I love the old ones but I also like many of the ones in 'The Oxford Book of Modern Fairy Tales'. I don't feel like going to the shed to check titles and authors now but there is one where a witch helps the hero to win the hand of the pricess and when he does he...

    Powerpoint-good or bad

Well, powerpoint in schools is old news here. It still used in Primaries and taught to students, but in Secondary schools the big thing now is smart boards. I think they are good and allow interactive teaching. Any points, suggestions, thoughts of the students can be immediately added on.
