    Hilariously Cheerful Reading

    Although they first appeared in the 1930's, E.F. Benson's "Lucia" books are still fresh and very funny. I recommend them to anyone looking for a witty, entertaining read. Parts of them are absolutely hysterical.

    Cerebral mysteries

    What about Ruth Rendell? I'd classify her mysteries as cerebral. Her plots are unpredictable, and her characters are fascinating.

    Books to Twitter

    Twitterature is like a modern version of Marvel's comic book adaptations of the classics. I agree with sparkchaser. In a way, highly condensed classics seem like a good idea, somehow--like a distillation of genius into a few moving droplets.
