What do you hate most about writing?

Outlines are really just outlines, and there's no reason you can't edit them as you go along. Part of my problems starting out stemmed from the fact that I never bothered to outline. That meant that by the time I finished my story, I had a cluster***k of a plot, excuse my language. It made...

    Can kids read too much?

Yes, but everything in moderation. If socialising and playing sports are at an expense to your time spent reading, I'd cut down on reading a bit. It's important to get the balance right. This is as someone who did the exact opposite when he was that age.

    Mortal Engines, anyone?

Ok, just a few links people interested in reading the books might want to check: Wikipedia Article on the Series Wikipedia Article on Philip Reeve A Questions and Answers Session with Philip Reeve I admit the last one is a rather shameless plug, since Hortorian is my website, but it's a good...

    Signature help pl

Ah, well as long as I can double post. I prefer editing to double posting though - it's cleaner. =P

    Signature help pl

Ah yes, I cleared my cache and it's working now. Another question: will I ever be able to edit my posts?

    Signature help pl

The rules say I can edit my signature after 10 posts, but I've reached 16 posts now... It's not a major issue, but it's a little confusing - I still can't see the ''Edit Signature'' option in my User CP. I understand if you're having trouble with XRummer Spammers and the like, so I'm not...

    Can kids read too much?

It's possible to do anything too much. When I was nine or ten, and completely hooked on Roald Dah and Harry Potter, I preferred to read than to play football. While it made me very literate, it also prevented me from becoming fit, and being active at a young age is very important in the long...

    Hello

Haha, how true. I'm not quite at that stage yet. =P

Any ideas on how to get noticed.

I know someone who posts all of his books on Livejournal, and hopes that if he gets a large enough following, he'll be able to attract a publisher. Yes, but the amount or rejections outweighs the amount of acceptances. Even with a well written manuscript, with great ideas, the publisher is a...

    Ayn Rand: The Fountainhead

The only positive thing I can say about Fountainhead, is that it's slightly easier to read than Atlas Shrugged. I know Rand didn't learn English as a first language, but who on earth taught her to write six page long expositions. Watching paint dry is more interesting... From a philosophical...

What the most proverb do you believe in?

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

The Lost Revolution - Brian Hanley and Scott Miller

I'm not sure how many of you are interested in modern Irish History, but this book has been mentioned in the media quite a bit recently. Basically, in late 1969 and early 1970, there was a split in the IRA. The provisonal IRA split away from the movement. Now the PIRA (as they are known) got...

Today Was A Bad Day For Me:

Dammit dude. I'm against anti-depressants in most cases, but it sounds like you might need them. >_> Have you tried eating plenty of fruit and vegetables, drinking plenty of clean water, and going out and getting air? That's my recipe for when I'm feeling down in the dumps, but I've never...

Guns N Roses comeback falls flat

I was going to go to that, but I'm glad I didn't. Rose has fired every single member of the old band, by himself, and plenty of replacement members to boot. It's not guns and roses, it's Axly Rose playing Guns and Rose's old stuff, along with other hired players.

Recommendation for new Fantasy Series please!

If all else fails, try David Eddings' Belgariad. They're none to original, but if you like dry humour, they're full of it. He makes some very funny characterisations, and hilariious dialogue.

What do you hate most about writing?

Have you tried outlining? It's saving me with my current novel. When I get stuck with a novel, I have a habit of pushing forward doggedly, with as I said before, is often at the expense of my manuscript. You have to have a clear vision of where you are going, and outlining helps that. =)

    Mortal Engines, anyone?

Has anyone read the Mortal Engines Quartet? I'm currently reading the first book in the series, Mortal Engines, and it's entrapped me from the word go. It's a post-apocalyptic science fiction series by British Author Philip Reeve. I'm mainly interested in seeing how other people react to it...

    Robert Harris anyone?

I'm a massive fan of Harris's books about Cicero: Imperium and Lustrum. Has anyone else read them? They're very interesting, both from a historical perspective (most of the events that happen did in fact happen - at least the major ones), but also from a political perspective. As the two...

    Hello

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'll be sure to do so, once I have something decent to offer. I've got rather high standards lately.
