"I'm the Doctor." "Doctor who?" "EXACTLY!"

Welcome! Have you read any of the Doctor Who novels? I'm working my way through the BBC New Adventures and am thoroughly enjoying them. It's a nice way to pass the time until the Christmas special.

    Hercule Poirot

Sounds like a rotten friend. He should have to give you money for spoiling such a good book.

    Hercule Poirot

That's a shame. The good news is that Agatha Christie wrote quite a few Hercule Poirot mysteries, so you shouldn't run out anytime soon.

Marion Zimmer Bradley: The Mists of Avalon

I read this about a year ago and just loved it! I was pregnant and sick as a dog for most of this book, but I felt that it gave me a greater appreciation for what I was going through. I need to get my hands on the next book in the series.

    Hercule Poirot

If you liked that one, try "Murder on the Orient Express". One of my personal favourites.

Do you let an author's personal views affect your reading choices?

It depends on what the issue is and how it's delivered. I wouldn't read anything or recommend anything by Heinlein for the reasons Litany said. The book may be fiction, but his controversial views are snuck in there. I also won't be reading any C.S. Lewis to my children because I want to...

I agree. And they're usually miserable and meet an unfortunate end.

Off-topic, but slightly related... I bought some cold & sinus medication at the local pharmacy a few years back and got an email form them a week later asking if I was feeling better.

Reading as a way to understand how women think

Oh Litany I've missed you! You are too funny! Honestly though Dustmetro... as a woman in her 20s, let me tell you that reading a romance to get an idea of how a woman like me thinks is a waste of time because I've never read one that I can identify with. The best way to get to know what a...

    I am fully caffeinated.

Oh but it tastes so good! The coffee, not the McDonalds milkshake... milkshakes shouldn't taste salty. I tried the vanilla frappuccino made fresh at Starbucks but it just wasn't the same. Hash brown coffee? I think I'll pass on that one. Thanks though.
