Kindle, iPad, iPod Touch, or another?

I recently got an iPad and couldn't be happier with it! I'd imagined it would be difficult to read on the screen for long periods but, as you know from using your iPod, this isn't really an issue. If all you want to do is read books I'd go for a Kindle; it's light, no glare, and has a great...

Who is your favourite author, and why?

At the moment, Martin Amis. Why? Becuase his style is his own, his writing is bold, unashamed, and for me very funny. More importantly though, he writes intelligent, complex books that require real thought. His fascination with the Grotesque and the slight arrogance that he writes with swing...

    WHSmith's Overpriced.

Most of the high-street booksellers are overpriced for me. One of my friend works for one of the larger chains and gets 40% staff discount - a pretty clear indication of the excessive mark-up. My theory is they can't compete with online retailers becuase of their fixed costs, and so they make...

Oscar Wilde: The Picture Of Dorian Gray

Oh, I really love this book! It's one of my all time favourites. The first scene, with Dorian torn between Basil and Harry was just wonderful.

    Paulo Coelho: The Alchemist

I read The Alchemist a couple of years ago and found it to be pointless, vapid faux-spiritual guff. Honestly, one of the worst books I've read. ==================================================== Bibliofreak.net - A Book Review Blog

Haruki Murakami: The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle

I tried reading this about a year ago. I've never really got on with Murakami, and I had to stop halfway through this. There is a particularly unpleasant scene, and I felt he'd in no way earned the right to stick something like that in mid-way through so I dropped it. Wasn't enjoying it very...

    Blog Author Interviews

Polly Parrot - You might be right there, maybe I could split the post over several pages so as not intimidate readers when they first call up the interview. Will - Thanks for the advice. I've just read a couple of the interviews on your blog and they illustrate your points perfectly. And, I'd...
