Non-Fiction Authors Who Write About Many Topics

My favorite types of Books :) I read everything Bill Bryson, Erik Larson and Simon Winchester write and there's 3 other authors I really like for these kind of books - A.J. Jacobs has, The Know It All: One Man's Humble Quest to Become the Smartest Man in the World, The Year of Living...

What is the most expensive book in your amazon wishlist/saved for later?

Mine is ,Birds of America, $389-$450 on Amazon! What really gets me is I had a chance to get it for about $90 a year or so ago and did not :(

    Goodreads

I use it but really just to keep track of what I have read or want to read. I don't take part in the discussions or reviews really. I find it is a nice way to keep lists but that's all I use it for :) I know they were purchased by Amazon a bit ago and there was a lot of concern over the effect...

Fake reviewers on the attack on Amazon

Reading through this thread makes me glad I never read reviews before reading a book :) I pick my books purely by synopsis and maybe a sample. If I glance at a book cover and it's just full of review snippets but no synopsis, I don't even bother to read the sample. If a book looks like it will...

    Random Question..Keep posting

Historical, and small (I hate cleaning but have to have things spotless so small is better) I don't need too many outlets or such but a nice sized bathtub is good :) Best T-shirt you've ever seen/owned?

    Random Question..Keep posting

I am selling my home and will be sort of renting (government leased housing) for a couple years, then buying again :) Do you prefer modern or historical, living spaces?

    Justin Cronin: The Passage

It seems like second books in trilogies often lag, a bit. Like the first book lays out the situation, characters and locations, the second lays out the plot lines, then the third has a lot of action and hopefully wraps everything up. I don't read a lot of series though, so I could be wrong.

I don't know where to go with that?!

It did seem a really odd thing to say to perfect strangers. I mean this wasn't the library we usually go to and so it's not like she's seen us around and we are on joking terms. Ah, well I guess we have all blurted something weird out when talking to new folks. My father in law teases me still...

I don't know where to go with that?!

As a socially awkward person, I often find myself struggling through small talk, usually I make it through okay, occasionally someone will say something that I just have no way to reply to, today was one of those days. The hubby and I went to a library book sale and were at check out, the very...

How do you read a book?

I prefer to read in a quiet, relaxing place but more often do it with many distractions, while on the go. I try to keep a book in my bag that is easy to come and go to and something that needs my attention more, at home.

Who is the best short story writer?

Peder do you know if his short story collection has, The Wood-sprite, in it? And have you read it? It came up in a recent conversation on something completely unrelated and I am interested in finding it. I am putting together a list of short story collections for my 2015 reading goal to read 1...

    Justin Cronin: The Passage

I am about halfway through and mostly enjoying it! There are some parts I really like and a few that drag by a bit and for all the description in some spots, there BIG questions still unanswered in others. I will finish it before I get to into discussion about it but I think it is definitely a...

    Podcasts anyone?

Found a new podcast I <3 called Welcome to Night Vale. It is great if you like odd, querky things or the old Twilight Zone or even older serial radio shows :)
