    Cornelia Funke: Dragon Rider

There are some authors that just won't grab you no matter how many others like them. I have tried to read Dragonbone Chair (Tad Williams) which so many people love and found it mind numbingly boring. Bakkers Prince of Nothing grabbed me at the start and then faded away, so much so that I didn't...

Will Robert Jordan Die before he finished wheel of time series?

I'm with you Mathius - to me commenting on a book you haven't read can be likened to people who speak just to hear the sound of their own voice. And for another moderater to justify it because of his status...sometimes its better to be silent and have people think you are a fool than to open...

    Robert Jordan: Wheel of Time

Jordan was a breath of fresh air for me at a time when fantasy was a little stale IMO - love it, can't wait for the finale.

Book suggestions similar to Serpent War saga, Riftwar Legacy etc by Raymond E. Feist

Thanks for the lecture Brys - probably went way off track as to the original question asked, but if somebody got something out of it, well and good. Either way, hopefully Dreamcatcher has picked up on what we are both trying to say, and assisted with their enquiry.

Book suggestions similar to Serpent War saga, Riftwar Legacy etc by Raymond E. Feist

Hey again Brys, I understand where you're coming from, but I'm having a little trouble placing Feist & Erikson into the same epic fantasy category. Not trying to start an argument with you (or anyone) but the original question was asking for other works similiar to Feist and in my opinion...

    Mythago Wood

I read Mythago Wood a long time ago and enjoyed it. I own Lavondyss and The Bone Forest (I think it's called!) but have not read them - there always seems to be something that takes precedence.

Book suggestions similar to Serpent War saga, Riftwar Legacy etc by Raymond E. Feist

Hey, Erikson's Malazon is nothing like the work of Feist in my opinion, nor is Bakker. I wouldn't read either of these expecting them to resemble Feists style. Not having read the books listed as Feist's influence, I cannot comment on them but George Martin is certainly an excellent...

    Raymond E. Feist: Magician

Thanks Gollum! Will get to them in due course rather than priority!

    David Gemmell question

Well, I'm now a confirmed Gemmell fan. Almost finished White Wolf, already bought the sequel The Swords of Night and Day, and can't wait to hit Waylander. Gemmell is certainly not a writer of epics, nor does he put enormous time into character developement, detail in general, verbosity of...

    Raymond E. Feist: Magician

Have you read the books I mentioned Gollum? Any chance of an opinion on them?

    David Gemmell question

Not a whole lot further in - damn those family commitments!!! - and about to start a block of 2 x 10 hour dayshifts followed by 2 x 14 hour nightshifts, so I may not get to update for a while, but... The main difference I am finding so far between White Wolf and Legend, is more character...

    Raymond E. Feist: Magician

Question for Feist fans - Is the Krondor trilogy worth reading? I loved Riftwar thru to Serpentwar, loved the Empire trilogy, but when I picked up the 1st Krondor (The Betrayal?) I was bitterly disappointed with it and put it down half way. Was I not in the right frame of mind, or was it 2nd...

i just found out about R.A salvator and terry goodkind

Hey! Concerning RASalvatore, I would read The Crystal Shard, the 1st book of the Icewind Dale Trilogy set in the Forgotten Realms. He writes many other books based on a character from this series, so if you like it, you're set. As for Goodkind, good luck! Hope you enjoy it more than I did.

My Favourite Fantasy Books Of All Time

I've made a pact with myself - no more reading unfinished series'! I haven't read book 11 from wheel of time, only finished 2 of erikson, the 1st bakker, up to date with GRRM - but will not touch any of them again until its all released! I understand peoples criticism of WOT, but to me Jordan...

My Favourite Fantasy Books Of All Time

GRRMartin is actually my favourite new author. I'll prove I'm not just jumping on his wave of popularity - I LOVE ROBERT JORDAN ALSO - further proof required - JORDAN IS BETTER THAN ERIKSON - but Martin has moved alightly ahead of Jordan at this stage. As for Le Guin - I read Wizard of...

    David Gemmell question

Hey Hugin, No problem! Not much time to read yesterday, only about 90 pages in, but so far so good. I like Skilgannon - there was a scene at a local town where someone tried to attack him, and without giving too much away, he was not in a position to use offence, and had to deal with the...

My Favourite Fantasy Books Of All Time

I stand corrected Kookamoor! It's not my fault - the very name of Goodkind makes me head for the doctors for an anti depressant prescription. I am shuddering merely typing it. Aside from this one MAJOR difference, it would appear we do share some likes. And I agree with you on Brooks - until...

    David Gemmell question

Hey Kookamoor, No rape scene in Legend. Must be another one. And I must agree with you on GGKay - I've only read Tigana & Fionivar, but I rate him highly. Guess there's no hard and fast rule when it comes to taste! I went on a Gemmell hunt today at the local book exchange, and could only get...

    David Gemmell question

Thanks for the tip - it's actually what I was hoping to hear! You may have gathered with my 1st post that while I enjoyed Legend, it had it's flaws. That his work improves with time is most encouraging because I certainly got enough out of Legend to want some more.
