Mine are loving Mommy by Maurice Sendak.
It's an amazing popup book about a boy looking for his mommy. He goes through the house and sees mummies, vampires, frankenstine, and a couple others. Gorgeously built.
That's what I mean.....whether they are fiction or non they still have value. I work in a school where each one of the characters from those books is sitting in my classes. WHen I have books stolen from my classroom, 90 percent of the time it's these titles.
Harry Potter is no different from reading Star Wars, or Lord of the Rings. It's a complex epic about good and evil. Many get hung up on the fact that he starts out as a child(*13) in the first book. This is not a kids book. As the years go by Harry gets older. Situations get more complex and...
It drives me nuts when writers get long winded. FOr example, the book Wicked could have been 100 pages shorter and it would have been so much better. He just got lost on an idea and rambed for 40 pages.

Anything Chris Crutcher, ALex Flynn, Graham McNamee, some Sarah Dessen, Jacqueline Woodson, the Go Ask ALice series, definite Marsden, and so many others. I think it's important that the book have some relevance to the student or it loses it's message. Books have always been a commentary on...
most of my books are around the 250-400 pages so the cover works still. If the book was that big I'd probably buy it in paperback anyways because it would be soooo expensive and then I'd use some junk mail!
I am eclectic I think. RIght now I am reading Karen RObards' Vanished, John Grisham's An Innocent Man, and Sue Grafton's N is for....
I have one for bed, one for the car (iPod) and one for the gym! lol
What was the one where the girl was being chased because she witnessed something in the library? SHe was living onher own because her mother died and her father was in jail. Ugh that was a bad one!
