    Peter Robinson' books

Friend of the Devil was great. I think you get more out of these books if you read them in order. Yes, definitely read Aftermath before Friend of the Devil, which does tie up loose ends. Actually, I remembered very well the dramatic details of Aftermath while reading Friend although I'd...

    Peter Robinson' books

I have read the whole Banks series. Obviously, I really enjoyed all of the books. In a Dry Season was my favorite with flashbacks from the present to the WWII homefront in Yorkshire. When I finished the series, I read Not Safe After Dark, which is a book of short stories by Robinson. Several...

    Worst or most disappointing book?

I liked 1984 also. My most recent disappointing book was The Ruins by Scott Smith. I kept waiting for a twist that never came.

Recommendations for a good crime novel?

For crime novels, I recommend anything by Harlan Coben, Stephen Booth, Peter Robinson or Tess Gerritsen. Booth & Robinson are English police novelists. Gerritsen's are medical thrillers. Also, Tony Hillerman's novel are good. They are about Navaho police in the American west.

    Peter Robinson' books

I am also a fan of British police detectives in general and Robinson's books in particular. I read First Cut first. It is not part of the Banks series. Since then, I've been reading the series in order: Gallows View, A Dedicated Man, A Necessary End, and am now reading The Hanging Valley...

    Tess Gerritsen

I haven't read The Mephisto Club. I did read Harvest, Life Support, and Bloodstream. I enjoyed all of them.

    F. Paul Wilson

Midnight Mass is Wilson's vampire novel. No romantic vampires. They are really nasty. Great book if you like horror.

    your top ten tv shows

That makes sense. Being forced to watch something can certainly influence how you feel about it. Besides, if you've seen every episode 5 times, it isn't really funny anymore.

The first sentence in the book you're reading

That was from The Deep Blue Good-by by John D MacDonald When the sun rose high enough to clear the slate roofs on the other side of the street, it crept through a chink in Sally Lumb's curtains and lit on a strand of gold-blonde hair that curled over her cheek. - A Dedicated Man by Peter...

    Book similar to Preston/Child co-written?

I am also a big Preston & Child fan. I have read almost everything they have written. I'd recommend Thunderhead if you haven't read it. It doesn't have Pendergast, but it is a great book. I would also recommend novels by F. Paul Wilson and James Rollins.

I really enjoyed it. I also read his First Cut (alternate title: Caedmon's Song). It is not part of the Inspector Banks series, but is also set in Yorkshire. I would also recommend the Cooper & Fry series by Stephen Booth which is set in Derbyshire. I'm really into English village...

That is good advice. Actually, I have finished the book. I may do that though if I read another Charles Todd.
