1491 New Revelations of The Americas Before Columbus by Charles C. Mann

I saw it on the shelf and thought "Wow, I really want to read that. I wonder if I can manipulate my mom into buying it (since it is hardcover) and then giving it to me when she is done".

Sadly, I failed so my new thought is "I'll wait until abecedarian is done with it and find out if it is worth buying for myself".

Those are my only thoughts :(

This is not a quick-read sort of book, but I'm enjoying learning about various theories and discoveries that have blown the textbooks out of the water. The chapter about maize is fascinating. I didn't realize maize is distinct in that it has no wild ancestor that anyone can tell. It had to be crossbred from two or more other plants. Those Incas might have been ancient, but they were right smart folks.
