I'm after the name and author of this book (if it sounds familiar to anyone)
I read this book *ages* ago, so only remember a few details, I'm not sure
if it was part of a series though, the ending seemed to set it up for a
sequel.
Here's what I think I remember, some of these points may be completely
wrong, it's probably 15+ years since I read this.
> Modern day setting.
> A Brother and sister, and their mom are staying at a log cabin in a
forest, the brother and sister are the main characters.
> Features a waterfall.
> Alien gasbags behind the waterfall?
> Glowing alien fireflies in the forest attracted to lights + people.
> Fireflies enter your ear and gestate inside!
> Characters with fireflies go deaf in one ear.
> Fireflies (in ear) are vulnerable to loud noises.
> Sister character turns her Walkman up high at one point and kills the
bug in her ear.
> I think characters with fireflies inside them would get sugar cravings.
> Fireflies portrayed as creepy for most of the book, but it turns out
they're beneficial symbiants that give special powers to their hosts when
they reach maturity.
> At the end of the book a character accidentally stepping through into a
different dimension because of symbiant
> It's not Animorphs, even though that's been suggested to me a few times.
Thanks for any assistance!
