Boy! I think Donald Southerland is a jerk! He's such a wierdo in the Movie of M*A*S*H. I just remember one or two scenes, where he had a really beautiful nurse in his alien grasp, and he made this weird gesture to her with his neck, almost as if he were a pelican, which seemed beyond human protocol. I mean, he's so wierd that it's hard to describe. It's one thing to come across wierd in writing, like I do, but to be so strange and liberal in gesture, and then to be called actor; well I just think that Southerland's craft does not resemble acting at all.
...And don't get me started on Southerland in Don't Start the Revolution Without Me? What a dainty lummox! He just prances around like an overgrown french boy in that movie! Disgraceful! Distasteful!
...And what about his role as the stoned proffesor in Animal House? How does he get a Jones girl? How does that backwards-pompouse hippy get such a lady, even in a work of fiction?
...Alan Alda was much funnier than Donald Southerland. Some would say that Southerland was trying to play a more serious role, but he likely wishes he could play Hawkeye like Alan Alda. How strange that two men, one a great actor, and the other a veritable baboon had their turn at playing the most monumental character to have existed in the entire scope of human events.
