Any Suggestions?

Hey there, im new to the boards and im also pretty new to the fantasy genre, although i have read most of the classics (LOTR, Dune, WOT, Song of ice and fire etc...). Anyways, summer is coming on fast and i would like a nice long series to read during work (i love slacker jobs). I'm open to any suggestions but i would prefer the books to have either a darkish plot to it, like the Sabriel series or just a out of the ordinary/completely original plot, like the Dark Tower series.
Thanks!

or just a out of the ordinary/completely original plot, like the Dark Tower series.

Although the execution is original the plot is defintely not. King has based this on a the poem CHILDE ROLAND TO THE DARK TOWER CAME , Tolkien, and Sergio Leone westerns (much like KJ Bishop did for The Etched City)

Regarding recommendations I have two list each with a synopsis for each novel/series. It is 200 entires long. I just expanded it from 101 to 200, and my list that has 102-200 is at my blog HERE (just scroll down mid page or so, you will see them numbered). My list of 1-101 is at my site Here

Hope that helps

At the fear of sounding like a broken record to certain members of this forum, I would recommend Guy Gavriel Kay. I've only read his stand alone novel, Tigana, but it was excellent and I have heard his other works are just as good. Definitely has a dark edge to it and his writing is very lyrical and quite impressive. I know he has one 2-book series and the Fionavar Tapestry which is three books. Not exactly the long series you were asking about but very good.

I forgot my recommendation! Sorry Razz!

Anyway, I'm currently reading Robin Hobb's Assassin Trilogy, which is actually quite good. George RR Martin has stated that he loves reading her, plus other GRRM fans have vouched for her too. It's not really very dark, not terribly original, but very capably done.

Original I'd go for Kay, but pwilson has beaten me to the punch.
