Can anyone tell me exactly what this is? I think it's a Talmud. My Hebrew is very poor. i would like to know if anyone knows the origin of this at all

An encyclopedia, perhaps? And part of a larger set?
That much judging from the three letters of the alphabet showing on the spines, and the repetition of three same titles (suject sub-divisions?) showing for each of the letters?

It is not my language so I'm sorry I can't help.
But I wish you luck and maybe someone else from here will respond.
In any event I would appreciate knowing what you do find out, for general knowledge, and even if not from here.

Thanks for asking
And best wishes
Peder

On further looking around (on Amazon and wikipedia), a Talmud it does indeed seem to be, having volumes labeled according to the alphabet.

Hope you can find out more about it.

Librarian to the rescue. A little fancy searching and: It's the Shulchan Aruch (shool-CHAHN ah-ROOCH; the ch is pronounced like Bach). It isn't the Talmud, but it's a later code of law. The set you have there isn't complete.

Well, live and learn! And thank you very much, Eva.

I hope the orginal poster comes back to see your answer.

Sincerely,
Peder
