Books about life in America in the mid-1600's

I'm looking for books, fiction or non-fiction, which are representative of life here in America in the mid-1600's. Any suggestions?
 
That's a toughie, most novels, etc, are set a touch after this period. I'm thinking of Last of the Mohicans, The Scarlet Letter, and one I read for school called Charlotte Temple, which would all be set just a wee bit after that.
