Conjunctions

Another bloody question! Apologies!

I'm not too hot on grammar (or punctuation!) but I don't want to let that put me off writing.

Question: is the word 'then' a co-ordinating conjunction?

My Oxford 'Everyday Grammar' says it is; however, I copied the following from the net (can't recall where) -

Remember the acronym FANBOYS: For-And-Nor-But-Or-Yet-So.
Be careful of the words then and now; neither is a coordinating conjunction.

Please help. Somebody . . . Anybody . . .

I read this post a few hours ago, and I though the exact same thing, but I was actually a bit afraid to post it, because it made me feel a bit stupid.

How stupid is that!!

Anyway, what is Coordinating Conjunction?

Cheers, Martin

Oh wait, I found a rather amusing definition!

Found it here.

On a conjunction:
Some words are satisfied spending an evening at home, alone, eating ice-cream right out of the box, watching Seinfeld re-runs on TV, or reading a good book. Others aren't happy unless they're out on the town, mixing it up with other words; they're joiners and they just can't help themselves. A conjunction is a joiner, a word that connects (conjoins) parts of a sentence.

It also said that then isn't a coordinating conjunction.

Never fear Martin, im not afraid to appear stupid (in fact, sometimes i dont seem to be able to avoid it ..... funny that  )

And here am I, intimidated amongst all you clever-clog students, thinking that I'm not too bright because I only reached Higher English :)

PS 'Highers' being Scottish equivalent of 'A-level' in England
PPS 'Clever-clogs' was not specifically aimed at you, Martin :p

Well, I'm studying the English language, and I didn't know. Hmmm, what could this mean?
