Which books stood out for you for 2003. It was a difficult list for me to pull together as I have read quite a lot last year. But, in the end I managed.

Here's my list:-

The Tawny Man Series - all three books, - Robin Hobb
A Caress if Twilight - Laurell Hamilton
Guilty Pleasures - Laurell Hamilton
First 4 books in The Last Rune Series - Mark Anthony
Daughter of the Blood - Anne Bishop
Storm Front - Jim Butcher
Harry Potter The Philosophers Stone - J.k Rowling
The Weavers of Saramyr - Chris Wooding
Lord of Snow and Shadows - Sara Ash

rune

harry potter and the order of the phoenix
lord of the rings: the return of the king
empire of the sun

i read many that i liked (and some that i hate) but these are some of my faviorites

I've just ordered 'Slaughterhouse-Five' Martin, hope I enjoy it as much as you.

I loved:

The House of Spirits - Isabelle Allende
The Tin Drum - Gunter Grass
Aberystwyth Mon Amour - Malcolm Pryce
Perfume - Patrick Suskind
His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman
The Alchemist - Paul Coelho
The Power and the Glory - Graham Greene

All in all, it was a good year's reading for me - helped, I think, by the BBC Big Read.

You will, trust me! It's a fabulous book. It's both fiction and non-fiction coated in a thin non-linear layer of Science Fiction. I've written a review of it, right here. I hope it's of any use to you.

Cheers, Martin :D

House of Chains - Steven Erikson
Son of the Shadows - Juliet Marillier
The Scar - China Miéville
The Veil of One Thousand Tears - Eric Van Lustbader

It has been a great year for reading for me. I have "discovered" quite a few new authors (new for me):

Jan Guillou: The road to Jerusalem
The Knight Templar
The Kingdom at the end of the road.

I accidentally posted before I was finished, sorry.

Anyway...

Ken Follett: The Pillars of the Earth
Ken Follett: The Hornet Flight (Read over new years. Brilliant.)

Maria Helleberg: Kærlighedsbarnet (The love child)

Paul Auster: The book of Illusions

Ib Michael: Vanillepigen (the vanilla girl)
Den tolvte rytter (the twelfth horseman)

These stand out among all the books

There are quite a few books I've not heard of coming up in this thread :) I'll have to do some research.

Dear Hobbiten,

Has the third trillogy book of Jan Guillou (Arn-Trillogy) come out in English? Is it called "The Kingdom at the end of the road". I can't find it in Amazon.

Thanks, Erez Yerushalmi
