Fujitsu Launches Color e-Book Reader in Japan

Weighing less than a pound, the e-reader uses the latest no- glare e-ink technology to render text as clearly as a printed page. Flepia displays 260,000 colors, good enough to display magazine like graphics. With up to 40 hours of continuous battery operation when fully charged, like other e-readers on the market it does not require power for continuous display of a screen image, consuming power only during re-draw. When used with a 4GB SD card, the color e- paper terminal can store the equivalent of 5,000 conventional paper based, 300-pages-long books.

Damn I hate these e readers. I hope they don't take over as I personally think there is nothing better than the real thing!!

I have a Sony E-Reader and I love it!

I don't read exclusively on it, I read paper books too. I like it for multiple reasons. Firstly I travel a lot and it's easier to carry around. Secondly I have dodgy arms, so holding a paper book for a long time can be problematic as my arms are weak, and the E-Reader is easier to hold. Finally it takes up less space than normal books. I tend to buy books for my E-Reader than I am unlikely to want to read again. That way they don't take up space in my house, and don't waste paper.

The reading experience in the Sony is good. The E-Ink is amazing and is just like reading ink on a page, so no eye strain worries. I don't think paper books will ever disappear in favour of these, but I do think they are a great way to read and for some folks will make the reading experience better and/or easier.

Each to their own I say!

Fair point. I just feel we spend so much time looking at digital screens nowadays and that our children, and children’s children may well evolve with square eyes.

Or maybe I'm just and old traditionalist who won't move with the times!

I understand the apprehension. I was a bit dubious to start with too, but when I saw one I realised it isn't a threat to paper books, just a different option. Both paper and digital work for me and so I use them both. :D
