How do you order the hard to find books? I have tried abe, alibris, amazon, bookkoob, etc. There HAS to be a copy of it somewhere! What ways do you use when needing the hard-to-find book?

I've been trying to get my hands on some hard to find DVD's, which means I go to all the shops I know, trying to find out whether or not they can order it, while I google away trying to find a cheap copy on one of the many websites out there. Sometimes it works, more often it doesn't.

When you find out could you let us know - I've been trying to find an out of print book for a couple of years now - one did come up for sale on ebay but ended up selling for £160 :(

I can understand if you guys like to keep things under wraps, but why not let us know the titles and we can keep a look out for you. Some weird and wonderful things turn up in used books stores.

The best way I have found is thru Bookfinder.com, I regualry purchase large amountn of first print fantasy and sci-fi novels weekly and they (none of the vendors assocaited with them) have never led me astray since I have been introduced to them, no matter how expensive or inexpensive the purchase. I highly recommend them.

Trust me it's nothing interesting - It's The History and Management of the Alaskan Malamute by Janet Edmonds :)

Considering it's a breed specific book which is out of print I don't hold much hope of finding a copy - there was talk about getting it republished but nothing seemed to come of it :(

Did you try to call the author?

Two ideas: eBay, but it sounds like you've tried that. I've had good luck there; you just have to check every week or so.

Interlibrary loan. True, the book won't be yours, but I bet some library somewhere has it. Try to find it and get it through interlibrary loan. If your local library doesn't do that, most universities do. There might be a fee for the loan and also for shipping.

There's one being sold on ebay at the moment - it's currently standing at £50 and there's four days left - considering the last one sold for £160 I can't see this one being less than £100 - as for the library - its a specialist breed book and not very well known - not the type of thing libraries deal with :)

    Thanks though.

ebay always seems to work for me, or just order them from a library and don't return them, as I'm a part time libriarian I probably shouldn't say that, but a good librarian can find anything if they're knowledgable. Ask them for help.

Living near a large city helps. I have always been able to find what I am looking for in small, secondhand book shops near universities.

Well there has been talk in the last few days of getting it updated and republished (though this was mentioned before and nothing ever came of it) So I'll hold out and see if anything materialises this time - I certainly can't justify spending £205 on a book :(
