Help locating a book

I need some assistance, looking for a book that was based in the middle ages, village battled another village by binding themselves into a large humanoid figure. The book detailed the damaged caused by the mass of weight on the bodies in the feet and such. Any direction would help, I've searched the web and asked many many people..
