When I was in the second grade, my teacher had begun (don't recall if we ever finished it...) reading this book to us about a man who lived inside a tree.

I think it was one of those huge trees that you could drive a car through, and he had managed to hollow it out on the inside and set up a home inside it.

I'd love to read it again, anyone happen to have any ideas on what it was called?

This kind of sounds like My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George. Its about a kid who runs away and sets up a home inside of a large tree and lives off the land.
