A book I read in highschool featured a girl who is a Holocaust survivor from Denmark. The story is often confused with the Diary of Anne Frank, who is a Holocaust victim. It is reminiscent of the Paul Newman movie Exodus, where the character Karen talks to Landau about the king of Denmark wearing a yellow star in solidarity with the jewish community.
I do remember it clearly inspired I am the Cheese by Robert Cormier which is a dystopic cold war story told about the United States.
