I wasn't sure where to place this discussion since the library classifies this book as Sci-fi, and the subtitle says, "A Whaling Novel of Suspense." It could go in general fiction since it's a sea adventure, but the monster from the deep dark sea might be more comfortable in the horror forum..
Anywhere it goes, this book is worth looking at if one likes the idea of a story that could have been a collaboration between Jules Verne and Herman Melville on a R.L. Stevenson & Phillip Jose Farmer plot..
I loved it, gory details and all. Odom does a wonderful job of painting the characters and action. If they ever make a movie from this book, I don't need to see it. The images are firmly planted in my brain, thank you very much Mr Odom:cool:
