I know the book, help me find the title!

Hello everyone, I'm looking for a book. Maybe someone here can help me find it? This is what I know:

-The book is mostly horror.
-The action happens in a castle or big house.
-People are tortured in various ways:
- hanged in a fired fireplace,
- cutted by a big blade swinging from the ceiling,when they're stucked to the ground,
- built alive in the wall
etc.

I also know that there is a movie after it.

Any help would be appreciated!

I think the book you're talking about is 'The Haunting of Hill House' by Shirley Jackson. The movie that was made after the book is called the Haunting.

Are you absolutely sure it isn't "The Pit and the Pendulum"?

Usher II is a reference to Fall of the House of Usher, so the Poe association makes sense.
