is this sentence grammatical? And if not, could you rewrite for me or explain what’s wrong inside? Please:)
Because of the verdict of the judge, his sentence was commuted from life imprisonment to 5-year jail.
 
The judge commuted the man's sentence from life imprisonment to a five-year jail term.

There are several things wrong with your version. Primarily, it can be read as the judge reducing his own sentence. Also, the judge's act is to commute the sentence, so saying 'because of the judge's verdict' is unnecessary.
