Justin Cartwright: White Lighting

The account of one mans life after he returns to South Africa from London to visit his dying mother, compelling if somewhat slow going, very funny and highly original.
Noone else I know has read it,anybody want to prove me wrong:confused:

I have read another of his novels - Half in Love. I finished it and got something from it, but then sent it to the charity shop since I couldn't imagine wanting to re-read it. I wonder if 'White Lightening' would strike me the same way? Let's see if anyone else has anything to say about it.

The returning to the bedside of a dying relative idea reminds me of a novel called 'Oxygen' by, I think, Andrew Miller. I remember seeing it in store, being impressed by the review extracts, but ultimately deciding against it when recalling having been less impressed by what little I had heard of a radio reading.
