Kathryn Harrison: The Kiss ~ A Memoir

Harrison's unforgettable memoir about her affair with her farther...yes, you read that right. At the age of 20, reunited with him after a 10 year separation, they begin a four year affair which further damages an already emotionally troubled girl.

Harrison casts an unflinching eye on herself and her, I hesitate to the use the word dysfunctional as it doesn't even do justice, family. Her relationship with her mother, who divorced the father when Harrison was 6 months old, gets a good thorough going over and her take on her father, a theologian no less, is excruciating to read.

I remember when this book came out over 10 years ago, she got a lot of flack for writing it, critics especially questioned her motive for writing it, deeming it to be too shameful for public consumption. This is a book that you endure instead of enjoy, but it's well worth the read.
