Katrina Kittle: The Kindness Of Strangers

No, that's not the title of the book I'm about to praise, but it is the phrase that rushed through my head like a metronome while reading it. Anyhow, I haven't been able to find anything to read as of late, and though the abundance of books has been great, the feeling of being pleased has been scarce, non-existant.

Anyhow, I got a call from the library, blah de blah, and turns out a book I reserved awhile ago (and forgot about), came in, titled: The Kindness of Strangers, by Katrina Kittle.

This was a few days ago, and I left the book to sit on my shelf. Earlier today, I decided to pick it up.

Family torn apart due to death of father...mother fighting to keep the family together...teenager with a rebellious streak...insecure younger son...yada, yada, ya--but wait? What's this? Children being raped? Pedophiles making home made porno? All the characters being wrapped in some giant scandal, blah de blah and MORE blah de blah?

Yeah, I'm not exactly elegant with words, but all I can say is I finished this book today, after deciding to take a quick glance at it. The prose is simple, but beautifully brings the characters to life and draws the reader in, and with such a serious topic that is presented throughout the story, it was so comforting to see that the author didn't bog herself down by basking in self-importance (or going off on philosophical tangents--like that piece of crap Life of Pi), but instead continued to pull the story along, leaving very little time for the reader to nod off and fall asleep as details became too vapid or plot-points became too stretched.

I don't want to speak too much of the plot because in doing so I would obviously give things away, but what I can say is the novel is paced exceptionally well, the story is expertly crafted, and that if you want a story to keep you entertained for a good few hours, I highly recommend giving this one a look.

The Kindness of Strangers -- Katrina Kittle.

Yay!

I've been looking for a new book to read, but have been sort of stumbling along without finding anything to catch my attention. Somewhere in the yada yada, blah blah, my attention was stolen away. So: yay! Thanks for the review/suggestion. ^_^
