Leigh Brackett: The Long Tomorrow

Post apocalyptic tale, written in 1955, set in an America where the cities have been destroyed in a nuclear exchange and the entire country has reverted to living like the Amish/Mennonite's, except with even more rigid Christian fundamentalism. All towns have population restrictions to keep large cities from forming and any kind of post industrial revolution technology is destroyed. Two teen boys though, hear of a supposed city of technology called "Bartorstown" and run away to find it.

Some of the technology is a bit dated, but altogether a pretty compelling read. My paperback copy dates from the mid 70's and has an ad for the paperback adaptation of Young Frankenstein(!) in the back. 262 pages.
