London Underground

I'm into history books right now :)

Does anyone know of a good history of the London Underground that they would recommend? Fairly cheap would be a good price :) Failing that, it'll be a birthday present...

Thanks,

Lynne

I'm the Underground's biggest fan! London's my favorite city in the world and the Tube makes navigating it simple, providing one has patience and a sense of adventure! :)

Can't recommend a book, though there are plenty of websites that talk about its history. However, the site I'd like to mention has a charm all its own:

Going Underground

Visit the section on driver announcements, they're hilarious!

Meep,
There is a book called Labyrinths of Iron by Benson Bobrick (I think) which is a history of subways in general, but certainly contains a lot of info on the London version. And, aside from a little ideological axe-grinding, it's quite well written.

Thanks funes, I'll have a look.

I haven't read Neverwhere, but i like Neil Gaiman, so i might get it

And that website was great!

Thank you all :)
