Looking for Fantasy Lovers' Expertise

Also the "Pern" novels, Anne McCaffery

and Andre Norton is a classic sci-fi/fantasy writer.

Two great female authors.

i know some great sci-fi and fantasy books but they're for children/teens. Cornelia Funke's books are wonderful, and i loved the book I, Coriander by Sally Gardner. Eva Ibbotson's books are very good too. and you should also read Bella at Midnight. i just love fantasy books!

Others have already posted my most of my fav authors, so I'll say:

Jennifer Fallon, particularly the Demon Child trilogy, the Hythrun chronicles and the Tide Lords.

also Fiona McIntosh, Trinity series and Percheron series.

Sara Douglass - Wayfarer Redemption series

These authors are all Aussies and sometimes their books get released under different series titles internationally so check their official websites if interested.

I second Greg Keyes, Jennifer Fallon, and Sara Douglass.

And add to that Juliet Marillier and Carol Berg. They are all definitely the kind of authors you are looking for if you like Sharon Shinn (she is probably my favorite author). It seems we have very similar taste in books.

Also, if you like Garth Nix's stuff (I'm assuming the Abhorsen books) I'd recommend some more young adult stuff. There is a LOT out there that is fantastic, and I'd recommend Jonathan Stroud (The Bartimaeus Trilogy) and Dave Barry/Ridley Pearson (Peter and the Starcatchers. Maybe even Scott Westerfield (The Uglies Trilogy).

I've got lots more recommendations where that came from. :)

The Sevenwaters Trilogy by Juliet Marillier
- Daughter of the Forest
- Son of the Shadows
- Child of the Prophecy

And you can't go wrong with J.R.R. Tolkien either.
