Louise Welsh: The Cutting Room

I have read this book recently and really enjoyed it, it made me sad and happy in turn. I felt all parts of teh book were valid - the sex scene was not gratuitous, it helped the reader understand the emotions the main characters felt for each other. However, when I read 'The Cutting Room', I didn't feel the sex scenes were integral to the plot. Obviously the book is about pornography, but I felt that the constant liasons between the protagonist and his lovers didn't really illuminate the plot but seemed like they were an addition. Not sure if any of you will have read these books as they are by British authors and contributors here mainly seem to be from the U.S. but it was always worth a try....

I've know the whole setting of the book very well as I live there. I read it in a few hours last year and, at one point, I think I missed something in the narrative which spoilt it for me. There was also a stage adaptation of it but I never got the time to go see it. The book was a good effort for a first time author.

Here latest Death to Tamberlaine, I think, is out now. Or coming out soon. I saw a poster saying she was doing a reading from it in Borders.
