Niccolo Machiavelli: The Prince

I finally got around to rereading this. Once you obtain power, how do you keep it? I suppose not surprisingly I could see how the strategies that Machiavelli wrote about in the 1500's could still work today.

My favorite piece of Machiavellian advice: "That Flatterers Should Be Shunned".

I think that Eddard Stark should have read this. He might still be alive.

It's amazing to me how many business and educational leadership courses have this book among their required readings. the appealing nature of it to me is that everyone has some competitive urgings that come out at times. While using cut throat strategies is not smiled upon for the most part, people do jockey for jobs, in competitive games, and in seeking power in their own way.

spark-I would be curious if you have read The Art of War and how you would compare it to The Prince.

A great five part series that aired on the history channel. Enjoy!:)
