Patrick O'Brian: The Mauritius Command

After many delays, I finally finished The Mauritius Command last night. It is book four of the twenty volume Aubrey-Maturin series. The story follows Commodore Jack Aubrey and Dr. Stephen Maturin as they sail to the Indian Ocean to try and take the islands of Mauritius and La Réunion from the French.

My only complaint is that for some battles O'Brian goes into great detail where other battles are briefly described. Oh well.

What a brilliant novelist he was- although some of his pre-Aubrey/Maturin works were very ordinary, I feel - the description of the everyday foods and music of the era alone make his work unforgettable.
Soused Pigs Face..followed by Drowned Baby? Yum...lead me to it;)

I liked 'The Mauritius Command', but 'The Wine-Dark Sea' and 'Desolution Island' are my favourites, especially the former.
