Has anyone read this history of the US Exploring Expedition of 1838-1842? I was looking for a well written, interesting nonfiction book for my hub and this seems to fit the bill, but I just learned of it.

Apparently this expedition was instrumental in the founding of the Smithsonian, contributed a lot to modern science, particularly biology, and mapped out the Northwest US to a great extent. Any feedback most welcome.

Sorry, can't help with this book but I have read The Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick. Excellent book about the whalers from Nantucket. Very interesting and was the basis for Melville's Moby Dick. I will definately try the book you have mentioned.
Thanks.
