Separations dark meander

Porthos poem rekindled the poet in me, so I decided to share this with the site. Thanks Porthos!

The following is a poem I wrote before deploying across the border into Iraq at the start of the second gulf war. I wrote it with my wife in mind, but never actually sent it to her (just as well, she’d have fallen to pieces)
I’m no poet, so I hope my efforts receive a seal of approval from the staunch poet writers out there.

All the best

Separations dark meander

Perchance to walk in rays of light,
Amongst friends I hold so dear,
I walk through boot and shoe and boot again,
Until such time draws near,
Cross sand and snow, bush and plain, up and over mountains,
Strive hard I do to meet with you,
On pasture that is green again,
Fear not for me when times are hard,
For certain we shall meet again,
The fates are bold and destiny told that we must surely greet again,
Our love is strong, forever long,
I know that we shall meet again,
Cry not my love, don’t linger here and live your life with cheer again,
For though I’m gone you can be sure,
In heaven we shall meet again.

Well it gave me goosebumps so that tells me your poem is very good and touching.
