Similar Books

[A_Pensive _Mind]

I'm not looking for any book in particular i'm just trying to find books which have a similar sort of theme - alternate reality type books. I don't know what the correct term would be for this genre. Examples of ones i've read are 1984, Brave New World, A Clockwork Orange and Fatherland. If anyone knows of anything similar please let me no.

They're utopian/distopian. You could try the original, Utopia. Or, if you're looking for more modern stuff try Farenheit 451, The Handmaid's Tale, Parable of the Sower, and Snow Crash.

you might also like Anthem by Ayn Rand ( i would normally not reccomend her, as her politics are atrocious, but this is a pretty good book),a nd definately a distopia

there are some very strong elements of this sort of thing in the "the time traveller" as well, although you would never know it from the stupid movies



I would double the reccomendation on Handmaids Tale and fahrenheit 451

also you might get a kick out of "the man in the high castle' by Phillip K Dick, which plays with the whole alternate history concept

Huxley wrote a utopia as well "island" which is nifty, especially to compare with "brave new world"

as utopias and distopias are always pretty didactic you might also like "stranger in a strange land" by heinlein...he also did some "future histories"
