The Green Butchers

Rented this film here and absolutely loved it. I don't know if the director is the Tarrantino of Denmark, but this movie just had me in stitches the whole time. The film is about two friends who work under an oppressive boss and open up their own shop. They are unable to gain a lot of business until they being to sell "chicky-wickies" which are. . . . . . . . . (uh-oh, spoiler info here.)

I watched De Grønne Slagtere a few months ago and thought it was really good. I've been trying to get my hands on as much Anders Thomas Jensen, Mads Mikkelsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas productions, but it's not that easy. I don't know what it is, but I really like Scandinavian movies.

Any way I can find some good films like the Green Butchers with english subtitles?

I don't know if you'll like them, but you'll probably be able to find quite a few dogme films in a subtitled version.

Thanks a million for the link, I found it quite interesting. They have some pretty strong views when it comes to filming.

The essence of Dogme95 is to challenge the conventional film language – in order to make authentic films, in search of the truth. This implicates cutting out the usual aesthetic means of adding sound, light, make up, “ mise en scene”. In addition, it gives more time to improvise the acting, because there are no breaks for hair, make up, light and costume change. Another point is that the handheld camera gives the actors more freedom and space to really impersonate and act out their characters, since the camera follows the actor instead of the opposite.

I will most definitely look to find the films that they produce.
