The ABC in Australia has just aired a similar program and 'Lord of the Rings' was voted number 1 (http://abc.net.au/myfavouritebook/)
In reply to the comments on Harry Potter and the like I think it's important to remember that the books were hugely popular before they made the movies. I also think that movies and TV are such a big part of our culture that at times it is impossible to separate them from our ideas about the books they represent.
