I have not read batman comics since I was a kid over 40 years ago, but I do recall that I especially liked the ones where he teamed up with Superman, and other superheros from the Justice League of America.

Wow...I'm going to say The Cult. IT was the first time I remember seeing Batman get broken. Spiritually I mean.

When I was a child I used to save all my Beanos and number them and then read them again in order a year later. I see in the flea markets that they are now fetching £4 a piece, but of course like most people I let mine go!

The Killing Joke is my favourite because it led to Barbara Gordon undergoing a huge amount character growth, it pushed Batman and Gordon to their mental limits and I love the joke the Joker tells Batman at the end about the two escapees from the mental institution.

Batgirl: Year One, followed by Batman: The Killing Joke. I love me some Barbara Gordon. I was also quite into Red Robin for a time, but kind of lost interest after a while.
