What should I read while vacationing in . . .

What to read while in . . .

When I'm vacationing in a new place, I make it a point to read books by local authors with local settings. It gives me a different window on the local culture, and it gives me an insider's thrill to visit a landmark and think, "Yeah, this is where that scene happened in the book!"

What books would you recommend to someone travelling to a particular destination? (It might be helpful to put the destination in the title of each reply.)

Coastal New England

I'll go first. Here are my recommendations for a trip to coastal New England:

1) Beth Gutcheon's More Than You Know (terrific novel set in coastal Maine village)
2) Harry Goodridge's A Seal Called Andre (non-fiction; humorous story of a man's experiences with a tamed harbor seal)
3) Farley Mowat's The Boat Who Wouldn't Float (non-fiction humor; Okay-so it's set in Newfoundland, but it depicts a quirky corner of coastal life)
