Dogs, Cats, Rats...What Kind of Critters Do You Have?

Some of us share our homes with numerous creatures, for others human companions are enough. I was put off by Tina Fey sharing how she didn't like animals in BossyPants. I've always had critters, strictly a cat lover for many years...then my Sophie came into the family, an AmStaff afraid of her own shadow. Callie came a few years later. He's an American Bulldog poster boy, fearless and muscle bound...and a lap dog...with an embarrassing secret, he has a growl that clears the street...but his bark sounds like a hoarse cocker spaniel "arooo arooo I'll eat your babies arooo". He lets Sophie do the serious barking.

We also have five housecats that rule the roost and my daughters rats in their split level cage. What pets does everyone else have?

awwwww so cute Brent!

I share my house with a cat and my environment with owls, frogs, tortoises and an assortment of birds. Deer wander through every now and then and if I walk down the road into the reserve (500m away) there are porcupines, mongooses, more deer, and a host of other thingies you know are there but never see :)

I think that if all you know about a person is their relationship to animals you can tell a great deal about them. :)

I agree, I don't think I could feel totally comfortable with someone who dislikes companion animals. Even if it was a single mouse I want to have something as a pet.

Twelve years ago, we purchased a terrier mix that is still with us today, she must be 19. I've heard small dogs live a long time, but I might rename her Methusaleh.

Last year, we bought a cat and I'm now a cat person.

Quite easy to go both ways, I love my dogs dearly, but being a cat person is in the blood. When Sophie buys the farm someday I shall adopt a flock of kittens. Fit of jealousy? She has been known to kill strange cats...my beautiful Callie has no prey drive whatsoever...except perhaps vacuum cleaners and certain select humans...dogs are weird sometimes

All the cats that have ever lived with us have hated the vacuum cleaner. So sometimes when they are peacefully sleeping on the couch, I leave the cleaning to another day.

Our new kitty is Rosie, the lovely 7 year old kitty that came to us recently from Catoholics Kitty Shelter.
We had already booked a tiny ginger/white kitten, but we fell in love with Rosie the moment we met her, so naturally she came home with us. PS. the picture I tried to upload is too large, so I'll have to fix it for next time. She is mostly white with grey markings and a sweet face.

My dogs are needy and dumb as rocks...cats are on another level. George Carlin did a bit about cats one time. He pretended to be a cat walking into a glass door, he backs up stunned but instantly assumes a cool pose and says "Hey I meant to do that!" then he steps behind the couch and screams...

ai lol a cat has a certain reputation to protect you know :)

better than a dog whose conversation rotates between 'BALL!' 'FOOD!' 'WHERE?' and 'WALKIES!!'

:D :D :D :D

For those of us with both cats and dogs- Youtube video's 1-4 "cat friend vs dog friend". I haven't laughed like that for a long time...enjoy
