Have you tried looking at French websites? You could try the French eBay as you said most of the books are in French. It will cost more to post them to you, but you may be more likely to find them.
Has anyone read this? A friend gave it to me and said I could read it without having read Heroes Die, the first of this series. He said that only the characters were the same, that I'd 'get it' without the first book. So ... I'm about 150 pages into it and I find it very hard to believe that I...
You've got to read Lolita and On the Road. Lolita is fantastic, and though I didn't enjoy On the Road, I'm glad I read it. I would've hated being Kerouac's editor, though!
I liked Girlfriend in a Coma which is a post-apocalyptic 'Oh crap, we've screwed up the world, I hope we get a second...
I think whatever she writes will become a bestseller simply because it has her name attached to it.
I like Harry Potter books, but I didn't expect them to be fantastic literature. I read them as an escape from all the literature that I had been reading for my degree. Sometimes you need a...
I've got a couple ...
'I'm Jared, a ghost.' Girlfriend in a Coma by Coupland
And a fantastic opening paragraph:
'One day, Annabel saw the sun and moon in the sky at the same time. The sight filled her wtih a terror which entirely consumed her and did not leave her until the night closed in...
I am amazed at how much the final Harry Potter book has been in the news lately and I've been trying to think of another book that has had this much publicity. All I can think of is The da Vinci Code[I], but even that was only news because of its controversy as I recall. Have there been any...
I usually don't read poetry mainly because I don't 'get' it. I had to read Thom Gunn's The Man with Night Sweats for a course in uni and I thought it was brilliant. Gunn was living in San Francisco at the time - several poems were written while Gunn was happy before the AIDS outbreak in the 80s...
It makes me sad to say it, but I actually like the films more than the books! So far anyway ... maybe once I've finished them I'll love them ... though I doubt it.
Sorry, I know this discussion ended a while ago, but I just wanted to add that I am on my third attempt at reading Lord of the Rings, and I'm not having much more luck than the first two times. I got about halfway through the second last time and gave up. I really enjoy The Hobbit every time I...
I think the only thing you can do is keep reading and not give up. There are slower parts in almost all books and all you can do is just push on and get past the slow part until something good happens again.
I can't remember exactly what happens in the middle of GoF, but hopefully you can get...
There is a big party at the huge Waterstones in Piccadilly Circus here in London, but I won't be going as I don't want anyone to ruin the book for me. I realise that everyone else there will be fans too, but what's to stop someone from reading the last line out loud?? I don't want to take the...
On the sofa I sit with my back in the corner with lots of throw pillows for support with my legs up. In bed I gather all the pillows we own and put them between my back and the headboard - that's probably the most comfortable, but I usually only do that at night.
You go to the pub with friends and spend the first ten minutes looking at the books lining the shelves. Luckily my friends have gotten used to it and don't mind me ignoring them for a bit!
You don't mind eating dinner alone in a restaurant as long as you have a book.
You rather like it when...
I'm amazed to say it, but I think Stephen King is my most-read author, too. When I was younger I read quite a few of his 'horror' novels, and I finished The Dark Tower series a few months ago. Though I don't have any desire to read any of his new scary stuff, I think he'll be my #1 for a while...
