Terry, I just finished reading this book. It's a good historical mystery and I enjoyed it, but I thought I'd give you a bit of unsolicited advice. There are at least 18 characters that I listed from the book. If this seems like a lot (as it did to me), you may want to consider making a list...

    Christopher Moore

Interesting NYT article, I didn't read that before. I wasn't sure if I wanted to read You Suck, but that review was so positive that I'm interested now. The reviewer referred to Dirty Job’s “strange little squirrel people”. Oddly enough, as Moore stated in his Notes and Acknowledgements at...

    Christopher Moore

Moore is definitely on my short-list of favorite humor writers, just behind Jasper Fforde and Douglas Adams. I haven't read every Moore book, but I've read 4.5 (I just couldn't finish Lust Lizard). I think I enjoyed A Dirty Job the most, because the plot made the most sense and the stupid...

    Current Non-Fiction reads

I recently finished Night by Elie Wiesel, and went to a bookstore today hoping to get Dawn. I didn’t find it, but I became engrossed with all the other books in the Holocaust/WWII section. I already own several books on the Holocaust, but today found a book titled Legacies of Silence by Glenn...

    Should eyezOnme be banned?

I have to say I think this is an excellent process. If members can try to refrain from wanting instant action I think this will work best for everyone in the long run. Just wanted to post an appreciation to the current moderation "team" for all the work they do and for putting up with all of us.

    Why Can't Female Writers Write?

I recently participated in a similar discussion about female authors in the crime fiction genre. "Where are all the 'great' female mystery writers?" someone asked. Why are all the best men? In response, people started to nominate some of the best female crime novelists they'd read. The man...

    books about theives???

Void Moon by Michael Connelly features a female burglar pulling a heist at a Las Vegas casino. There’s a lot of detail on how it’s accomplished. There’s also Lawrence Block’s lighthearted ‘Burglar’ series featuring Bernie Rhodenbarr. Bernie operates a bookstore by day and is a burglar by...

How Many Books Do You Read in a Year (approx.)?

I've only kept a list for the past two years, and for both the total was almost exactly 100. Makes sense, since I know I read about 2 books a week on average. A few more if I added in the ones I've abandoned half-way through.

No worries, Smila. Just thought you'd like to see there were others who agree with you, including me. :D I love your avatar - is it from a painting?
