What is Your Library Like? (Contains Images)

Our town has a new and fabulous library. A big fundraising drive made it happen, and yes, there are new computers, but many new books and shelves, lots of periodicals - same amount of videos as before.:D And an in-house used book store staffed by volunteers to help funding. We are so lucky! And it's in walking distance of my house.

The other libraries are pretty good too - three or four others that I know of within fifteen minutes, two of which are college libraries. If I didn't have this system I'd be a flatout pauper or a very frustrated reader.

Can you not place holds on books from other branches?

My community utilizes an old doctor's office that was donated free of charge. They do have a decent selection of books and have a respectable children's section. It's mostly run by a full time worker and two part time employees who are very helpful.

I've merged together a couple of similar threads. I'm also posting a couple of library shots. The first is a picture of my local library. It is an actual Carnegie Library. It looks quite large in the pictures, but it actually rather small and cozy. They don't have a whole ton there, but the interlibrary loan system is excellent here. I'm almost always able to get what I want.

This second picture is the W.E.B. DuBois Library at The University of Massachusetts in Amherst. As a history major I spent a LOT of time there and also worked in the computer labs on the seventh floor. It is the tallest library in the United States. You can't tell, but it is surrounded by a fence because pieces of brick have been known to fall off of it.

can't find any good pictures, but here's the website: http://aadl.org

we have a wonderful library system, we even do interlibrary loans! Our city has lots of good bookstores too.

And I've actually been to that new york library. It was amazing.

My mouth doth hang open in envy. Living in Small Midwestern Town, USA, our library was in a trailer until about five years ago. They now have an actual building for it. But don't get excited. It's still about the size of a trailer.

I wind up buying all of my books, or going into the biggest nearby town if I want to borrow them. (It's actually a Carnegie library as well...and it's beautiful and fairly large.) But it's easier just to buy them, since even the nearest town doesn't have a great selection. When I go to Chicago, which I do about once a year now, I always want to go to their library. First time I saw it, I thought they must have devoted a room to every author. It was crazily big in comparison to everything else I'd seen.

I can't find an image of my local library, but this is the Arts/Humanities library at my uni, where I spent most of my time hiding on the fifth floor.

I can't find a picture of my library. (I don't use the library anyway.)

But here is my local mobile library.

Libre, I envy you!

i wish i was still at the Harvard Summer School Program. The Widener library is AMAZING! (not to mention, huge. i've gotten lost alot at first and set off an alarm)

my current library is far better than the one i was forced to use in an immigrant community in NJ.

Did you try going to your documents file, then copy and paste the url into the "enter url" box? Hope it works, since I'd love to see your library.:)

unfortunately

I can find no pictures of my library. But I quite enjoy it, sometimes there are obnoxious people who go there and I usually flip out on them for doing so, the librarians that work there are serious about the library unlike other places I visit where other obnoxious people work and don't follow rules etc.
Other than that my library is quite great with a lack of a vast amount of computers (just how I like it) and a major collection of books it is my second favorite library. My favorite is my own library consisting of 204 books upon last count, I collect any and all books in at least relatively good condition and will take your books if you deem it so.

The public library system in my city has nine branches; some being smaller strip mall locations. There is also a talking book library and a bookmobile.

The older main branch is the one I usually visit.

This is the newest large branch about ten miles from the main library.

Wow! I'm really jealous of the libraries, I'm seeing here. I can't post a picture of mine, but I can give you a link, if you like.
Well, we're waiting for that link!

Wow - there are some really lovely library facilities out there. And there are some really horrible ones, too...

I just moved to St. Louis about 8 months ago and we have the greatest library. They have like 20 branches throughout the St. Louis County area and you can get almost anything because they're always delivering books to other branches. It's been such a relief on my checkbook! Now, after reading about some of the other libraries out there, I am so grateful that I have access to such a great resource.
