The Dark Tower Films

JJ Abrams and Damon Lindelof, the creators of "Lost", have been selected to adapt the series into film versions. Why them?

"I know J.J. Abrams' work and Damon Lindelof, who is his collaborator on Lost," King said. "Damon is just a total comic-book freak, and he loves the Dark Tower books. I trust those guys, and they have a lot on the ball. When they said they wanted to talk about doing this, I said, 'You know what? Why don't you buy the option on this and see what you can come up with.' They asked, 'How much do you want for an option?' I said, '$19.' [It's a key amount that comes up frequently in the books]. And that's what they paid me, and that's where it is."
-Stephen King

Uch i tried to read the first book in this series but couldnt get into it. Maybe a film will make me more inclned to read them.

Why them?

The smartass answer would be "because they have proven that they know how to drag storylines out to infinity for no good reason", I guess. Though I liked The Dark Tower, so I'm not going to say that. But I don't see how it can be filmed at all - not that any part of it is unfilmable, but the sheer SIZE of it... considering the quality of the average Stephen King film, I'm not confident.

I would love to know how JJ Abrams plans to fit approximately 5000 pages of text into a 2 hour film. But, as a former-hardcore-but definitely-losing-interest Lost fan, I bet he will probably just make an overly long movie centering on all of the storylines that have no actual bearing on the core of the plot. *mutter grumble mutter*

Hmm... who could play Roland? I always pictured a young Clint Eastwood, but Clint is obviously not young anymore.

I think the plan is to adapt all seven books into films, not one movie based on important events in the series. If the "Lost" creators are truly the big DT fans they say they are, then they'll try to remain as faithful to the books as possible. I doubt King would be so eager to give them permission if they approached him with the idea of making one movie only.

*mutter grumble mutter* [this is me trying not to use profanity]

I'm not convinced, but I'm also mad at JJ Abrams this week. I'll check back in after I watch the next episode of Lost.... LOL

I have never seen Lost so I cannot comment on that aspect.

I'm currently reading "Wolves of the Calla" so hopefully I will have the series finished before the movies are released! ;)

I don't know if the Dark Tower Series should ever be made as a movie. In my opinion they might ruin all the imagination and fantasy within the reader, and I'm afriad they might screw it up.

On the other hand, the Lord of the Rings Triology was a huge success, therefore I shall wait till the movie is out. I'm actually interested how it's going to be. I'm currently in Wizard and Glass...

The Dark Tower is Seriously coming to the Silver Screen???

There is a god.

Hmmm....Wonder who the cast will be....

First and foremost, who will play Roland?

CLint Eastwood would have been ideal back in his Fistful of Dollars days.

Considering whos making it, the question should be how many two hour films can they make from one book.

Can't they make it into a TV series? I would really hate it if it turns into a film.
