    Are you sure? :p

    dogme95

I guess you're right about the removal of useless layers in a "typical" movie (horrible soundtracks come to mind), but sometimes a layer can add something to a movie. I haven't seen Idioterne yet, but I hope to before I move. My brother got the DVD from a friend, so I'll be whining until I...

My uncle read it and said it was done tastefully, so I might give it a try anyway.

    3 Favorite Songs

I agree. My "favourite" song for the moment is Torches by Rise Against, but who knows how long that'll last?

    Changes in film adaptations

I agree, though I think it's sometimes necessary to make big changes too. After all, film is an entirely different medium than books are. One thing I can't stand though are biopics that are more fiction than non-fiction. I'm not asking for a documentary, but they could try to keep changes to...

    dogme95

Most of you have probably heard about (or seen) Dogme movies, but I was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the manifesto and on the films themselves. I've seen four of the fifty official Dogme movies and while I liked most, I'm not too sure what to think about the whole thing. Is it...

I'm thinking maybe Rigana has a point.

    Reading in a Foreign Language

Quite a few members here probably read books in languages that aren't their mother tongue, so I was wondering: why do (or don't) you do it, what do you get out of it, do you have any problems with it? I remember talking to Tobytook about this back in the day, and he said: (You can find the...

Audrey Niffenegger: The Time Traveler's Wife

It was 00:11 and I was bored. (Plus I'm trying to show people what can be done with our lovely search engine. ;) )

Charles Dickens: A Tale Of Two Cities

I cannot believe how much my thoughts on this particular books changed while I was reading it. I went from liking it and speeding through the first bit to slowing down, to struggling through it, to getting sucked into it again. It's not something I'd read again any time soon, but I might give...

Audrey Niffenegger: The Time Traveler's Wife

Well, I thought it was pretty obvious how it was going to end, so I didn't really like how it dragged on and on. If it's the last scene you're referring to... I don't know. It gave some kind of "closure", but I still could've done without it. It didn't leave much for the reader, did it? (I'm...

    Most Popular Books in Belgium

I have no idea, really. I just figured someone with a French first name and a Dutch last name would have to be Belgian. I think it's actually just a bestseller list for Flanders. Still, I'm not sure if it's because of that that there aren't any English novels on there, or because of the fact...

    Most Popular Books in Belgium

I would actually like to read Dardenne's "memoir", but I think I'll feel too voyeuristic.

    The Green Butchers

I don't know if you'll like them, but you'll probably be able to find quite a few dogme films in a subtitled version.

Audrey Niffenegger: The Time Traveler's Wife

Kookamoor seems to have started something with her Books you are afraid to post about. thread, so I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and start posting some serious threads myself. I read The Time Traveller's Wife a couple of days ago, partly because I had seen the title on TBF a few times...

    Most Popular Books in Belgium

The only ones I know myself are Pieter Aspe ("famous" Belgian crime type writer) and Sabine Dardenne (girl kidnapped by Dutroux), but I'm guessing Johanna Spaey and Philippe Vandenbergh might be Belgian too (or maybe Dutch?).

    The Green Butchers

I watched De Grønne Slagtere a few months ago and thought it was really good. I've been trying to get my hands on as much Anders Thomas Jensen, Mads Mikkelsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas productions, but it's not that easy. I don't know what it is, but I really like Scandinavian movies.

    Most Popular Books in Belgium

Ions's thread made me curious about what books are in the bestseller lists in Belgium, so I went looking. I came up with this: That's an odd list, I think.

Now I'm curious as to what's in the bestseller lists here in Belgium. Sadly I can't find anything.
